Team Composition
There are 16 members in the team, of which 10 have doctor’s degrees and 4 have master’s degrees, whose professional backgrounds include farmland water conservancy, agronomy, farmland ecology, resources and environment, chemical analysis, computer science and other specialities. It is a multidisciplinary research team with young talents as the mainstay.
Main Research Directions
(1) Crop-water relationship and deficit irrigation theory
(2) Monitoring and diagnosis of crop water regime
(3) Deficit irrigation decision-making and implementation technology
(4) Agronomic water-saving technology.
Research Conditions
The team's scientific research work is mainly carried out relying on the Key Laboratory of Crop Water Requirement and Regulation of MOA, Xinxiang Qiliying Comprehensive Experiment Base of FIRI, and the field test bases jointly constructed in Alar Xinjiang, Jiaozuo Henan, Xuchang Henan and other places. The laboratory has a flow analyzer, liquid chromatograph, gas chromatograph, isotope ratio mass spectrometer, multi-gas analyzer, photosynthesis measurement system, soil respiration measurement system, root ecological monitoring system, walk-in phytotron, Kjeldahl apparatus, eddy covariance system and other equipment, as well as crop water requirement test field, weighing lysimeter and non-weighing lysimeter group, intelligent environmental control phytotron, solar greenhouse group, barrel planting and potted planting areas and other large-scale experimental facilities, which provide good conditions for scientific and technological innovation in theories and new technologies of deficit irrigation.
Scientific Research Projects
During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, the team members have presided over more than 20 projects including Special Projects for Public Welfare Industries (Agriculture), special projects for post scientists in the Industrial Technology System of MOA, National Key R&D Plan, and Natural Science Foundations. The annual research funding is more than 3 million yuan.
Achievements
In the past 3 years, the team has won 3 scientific and technological awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, obtained 8 software copyrights and published more than 70 papers in Field Crops Research, Agricultural Water Management, Irrigation Science, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Acta Ecologica Sinica, Transactions of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, Chinese Journal of Applied Ecology and other domestic and foreign core journals and above, of which 27 are included in SCI. The team has cultivated more than 16 doctoral and graduate students.
Research Direction
Research direction 1: Crop-water relationship and deficit irrigation theory
Leader Meng Zhaojiang Member Shen Xiaojun, Niu Xiaoli, Zhang Yingying
The team mainly studies regulation mechanism of crop growth surplus under water deficit, the mechanism of water-saving conditioning, the mechanism of response of root water uptake to water deficit, the improved method of crop water production function model and the study of temporal and spatial variation of model parameters. The team clarifies impact mechanism of water deficit on crop physiological processes and the formation of final yield and provides a theoretical basis for the implementation of deficit irrigation technology.
Research direction 2: Monitoring and diagnosis of crop moisture status
Leader Zhang Jiyang Member Liu Xiaofei, Zhao Ben
The team mainly studies the farmland moisture monitoring point optimization and data processing, the farmland soil moisture rapid monitoring technology and equipment research and development, the crop moisture information collection and data standardization processing, research and development of corresponding crop moisture information monitoring equipment, the adaptation range of different monitoring methods and their relationship and explores the comprehensive diagnosis method of crop moisture based on multi-information fusion.
Research direction 3: Inadequate irrigation decision and implementation technology
Leader Xiao Junfu Member Liu Zhandong Qin Anzhen, Lian Yanhao
The team mainly studies technologies and methods for optimal allocation of limited water among multiple crops in the region and at different stages of crops, research based on crop water-economic and ecological models and corresponding regional deficit irrigation management models, water-saving mechanism of new deficit irrigation technologies, research on control indicators and technical models and provides users with deficit irrigation decision-making services and deficit irrigation technology models that can be used in actual production.
Research direction 4: Agronomic water saving technology
Leader Liu Zugui Member Ning Dongfeng, Zhang Weiqiang
The team mainly studies water-saving and drought-resistant varieties screening and identification index system research, water-saving and efficient crop planting model optimization technology research in irrigation district, water storage and moisture conservation cultivation technology research of main crops in different ecotopes, main crop water-fertilizer coupling balance fertilization technology model, the water control effect and production and synergy mechanism of chemical preparations, and the development of corresponding product preparations and provides supporting agronomic technical measures for the application of new technologies for deficit irrigation.
