From April 8th to 13th, 2018, the European Geoscience Union (EGU) annual meeting was successfully held in Vienna, Austria. A total of 15,075 experts and scholars from 106 countries attended the meeting, among which 53% are young scientists. Dr. Liu Yuan, the visiting scholar from our institute in the United Kingdom, made a presentation at the “Irrigated agriculture: Natural Resources Management for the sustainability of the terrestrial ecosystem maintaining productivity” session, the second theme session of SSS10 “Soils, Forestry and Agriculture”—the session of Soil System Sciences. The report titled "Accumulation of antibiotics due to root water uptake enhances the abundance of antibiotics resistant genes in rhizosphere" introduced the effects of the irrigation amount of aquaculture wastewater on antibiotic resistance genes, which was praised by the participants.
EGU is the top geoscience academic organization in Europe, dedicated to studying the laws of geoscience, planetary and space science. The EGU annual meeting is one of the most influential academic conferences in the field of geosciences. More than 20 sessions were set up according to the themes (atmosphere, geophysics, climate change, hydrology, soil science, marine science, biogeoscience, planetary science, etc.), each of which set up multiple theme sessions. More than 10,000 scientists from all over the world attend the meeting every year. At the same time, the EGU annual meeting is committed to providing a broader platform for young scientists, encouraging more young scientists to participate in academic exchanges, and providing more opportunities for international cooperation.
